The foot prints of the Congregation
In 1831 Monsignor Joseph Benaglio in collaboration with St. Teresa verzeri founded the Congregation of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Bergamo (Gromo),Italy.
In 1980 the DSHJ Congregation started it’s first Indian community at Kudamalloor, Kottayam, Kerala(Nest of Formation).
In 1986 it extended the second community at Kiliroor oriented towards visiting family Nursery school, Youth animation and other Parish activities.

Accepting the invitation of MCBS Congregation, The DSHJ in the spirit ‘towards the poor’ went to Karnataka (Bhadravathi). Start with an orientation of village work and social uplifting of the woman.
Expanding the horizon, we started a second community in Karnataka in Mangalore with a student’s hostel for animating youth, those who emigrated from different states.
In 1994 the third community started at Koppa(Karnataka) which is an interior place, where there is no education, school, Hospitals etc. There we started a Clinic, Nursery school and other Small activities among the villagers those who are really poor marginalized, illiterate and misery. There we faced certain persecution and political problems.
1998 we offered our service among Muslim people at Varkala Thus it was a rare opportunity to share the love of Christ with them.
DSHJ offered their service at Kalluvayal, a remote village among rugged mountains and hillocks, in Thallicherry Diocese, Cannanore.
1999 the DSHJ stretched out their hands to the orphans and destitute in the Diocese of Kalyan-Maharashtra.
The Indian Region extended its service towards Center Africa 2000, Roe’ 2001, San Felice(2004),Orthona (2006), Romania(2008) …...
In 2003 the formation community got shifted to Ernakulam Diocese at Kalady.
 
Thus we have twelve communities with 70 sisters who work with special enthusiasm for the good of the poor and needy. The new bourn BENAGLIO PROVINCE (2007)walk with hand in hand by reading the signs of the time and try its’ best to proclaim the Word of God.
